Abstract
The word of Functional Safety derived from IEC 61508 became famous and common in the last 10 years in Japan. This KEYWORD is applied from the Railway application as chalenge project to Car components today. However the implementation prcess for the functional safety into several industries was not so easy history due to lack of understanding of their essential from the standards and the background of global market. This article expects the engineers in the future to understand the history of functional safety and to find their own solution. IEC 61508 is just an generic standards and an entrance to the world of the functional safety so that it's not perfect standards. As long as following the single standard the goal of validation of the safety product/machine/System never be completed. The most essential is to understand the comprehensive approach during Functional Safety Evaluation. The Notified Body in EU tries giving HINTS in order to establish the Japanese local laboratory/Notified Body.
