Harbin Engineering University first came into contact with and understood the IAEA's INMA NTM (INMA: International Nuclear Management Academy, NTM: Nuclear Technology Management) initiative in 2015, and had a great agreement with its concept of improving the management competencies of students in nuclear engineering beyond the technical competencies. We thought that the INMA concept is in line with the nuclear industry's expectations for the capabilities of nuclear discipline graduates, and believed that this initiative is very beneficial to the overall development of graduate students, especially to the improvement of their management and leadership competencies. Therefore, the university's nuclear engineering master training program deliberately incorporated INMA NTM concepts and elements. The feedback of nuclear industry on the graduates, and the feedback of the graduating students on the training program and curriculum were taken into account in revising the master program. In accordance with the assessment system proposed by INMA, the training program of master's students in nuclear engineering of Harbin Engineering University was self-assessed. The international student master's program in nuclear engineering of Harbin Engineering University was taken as an example to be statistically analyzed according to the 50 competency requirements in 4 categories: external environment, technology, management and leadership, proposed by INMA. Conclusion were gotten that this training program meets the INMA requirements in the total learning time, block learning time and abilities layout. It was also found that there were still deficiencies in management and leadership training in this program, and suggestions for strengthening measures were given.
