This paper is concerned with the theoretical analysis of the transient piezothermoelastic problem of inhomogeneous piezoelectric thick strip due to nonuniform heat supply in the width direction. The thermal, thermoelastic and piezoelectric constants of the strip are assumed to vary exponentially in the thickness direction. We obtain the exact solution for the two-dimensional temperature change in a transient state, and transient piezothermoelastic response of a simply supported strip under a plane strain state. Some numerical results are shown in figures.
