A hot-extruded ZK60A magnesium alloy was processed by the equal channel angular pressing(ECAP) for 1 to 8 passes at a die temperature of 200°C. Effect of ECAP pass number on microstructure and low cycle fatigue property of ZK60A magnesium alloy were investigated. The ECAPed ZK60A samples exhibited no significant cyclic softening behavior, while rapid softening has been observed in a conventional ECAPed sample such as copper and stainless steel. Fatigue life of ECAPed specimens was improved compared to the as-extruded ones. This difference of low-cycle fatigue property between the as-extruded and the ECAPed samples is understood from the twinning-detwinning behavior.
