Bulk metallic glass (BMG) has an amorphous structure and outstanding mechanical properties such as high yield stress and low Young’s modulus. At room temperature, that shows brittleness, and the creation of a viable band for shearing by structural rejuvenation causes eventual localized shear band, which leads to immediate fracture with significant temperature rise. In this study, dynamic FEM analysis using the constitutive model of BMG, in which the free volume theory and the flow rule using Dracker-Prager yield criterion is coupled, was conducted, and the influence of initial imperfections and temperature change on the formation of shear band was studied.
