We performed impact compression of three types of graphite with various characteristics using single stage powder gun. Then, heavy liquid separation was carried out on the particles subjected to impact compression to recover high density carbon phase. The recovered particles were analyzed using XRD method. The better the crystallinity, the larger hexagonal diamond peaks were obtained. Therefore, it was suggested that graphite powder with good crystallinity is suitable for the synthesis of hexagonal diamond.
