Compressible effects on the stability of supersonic mixing layer is investigated to gain insight into the physics. Direct numerical simulations of the time-dependent compressible Navier-Stokes equations in two-dimensions are performed for the mixing layer at convective Mach number 1.0 forced by Fast/Slow mode, as well as the most unstable wave. Numerical results show that sound waves are generated due to the growth of the fast mode.
