Fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics behind a single-sided sudden expansion were investigated. The wall static pressure and the local heat transfer coefficient were measured for various Reynolds number. Reynolds number based on twice of upstream channel height was varied from 2×(10)^4 to 8×(10)^4. This paper investigated how the parameters such as expansion ratio, step height and Reynolds number relate to the fluid flow and the heat transfer characteristics. The reattachment point was determined by using split hot-film probe. Its streamwise location moves downstream when expansion ratio increases. The location where maximum Nusselt number appears moves downstream with the increase in expansion ratio.
