Experimental researches have been conducted to improve the regeneration performance of regenerator of the α type Stirling engine. The attention was mainly paid to the dead volume, pressure losses and actual heat transfer, which depends on the performance of Stirling engine operations. Two type of regenerator, which has a cross section of cylinder or rectangular was prepared for number of stainless mesh. The results show that the pressure losses in the cylinder type regenerator decreases for that in the rectangular type in whole conditions examined. It is obtained that the optimum amount of stainless mesh as regenerator matrixes determined for the operating conditions. It is also concluded that the regeneration rate of cylinder type regenerator has higher performance than that of rectangular type.
