The author has been teaching a course entitled "Overview of the Market and Introduction to Marketing" since Fall Semester of Fiscal Year 2002 for junior and senior students at Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology. The course attendees are requested to exhibit their own initiatives in the areas of their own interest, and are required to submit a semester report which includes their original insight into the themes related to the market and marketing research of their own interest. For coach learning purposes, students are requested to fill in the questionnaire for the lecturer to sense various areas of the students' personal and academic interests, and the lecturer provides students with his essays and articles for him to be better understood by the students. The lecturer gives briefing of a variety of the market areas, and course attendees are encouraged to discuss with their classmates and the lecturer during the course of their study and constructing a manuscript for their reports. The lecturer also coaches the students on an as needed basis. At the end of the semester, all course attendees have opportunities to present outcomes of their studies and to discuss with their classmates and lecturer on their own subjects both orally and in a written form. The students, therefore, have an opportunity to improve their draft reports before the final examination, when they are requested to submit their final reports. During this process, the course attendees can widen and deepen their understanding of the subjects of their own interest, in particular, with their enhanced motivation, leading to their finding of prospective career opportunities, and further research topics and themes they may wish to pursue.
