This paper describes secondary flows in a curved duct. Flow resistance of pipes and ducts is very critical in the industrial applications Secondary flow is observed in bends due to centrifugal effect and flow resistance is therefore increased Secondary flow is studied by experimental methods together with numerical computations We first investigate numerically a fully developed flow of a bend The governing equations are derived by assuming a stream-wise constant flow. Pressure gradient is updated during the calculation to satisfy flow continuity Bend curvature and pressure drops are correlated. Number of vortices in the duct cross section varies as its aspect ratio is changed
