A zero-compliance mechanism is applied to force measurement. In the proposed force measurement system, the force is estimated from the displacement of a detection point without displacing the point of force. The efficacy was demonstrated by an experimental apparatus using series magnetic suspension. Because the apparatus used magnetic force to achieve zero-compliance, the accuracy of measurement was limited because of the nonlinearity. To solve such a problem, a single-axis measurement unit has been developed which uses a parallel spring and a voice coil motor as an actuator. In this paper, the control system is designed based on the pole assignment method. The relation between the closed-loop poles and the measurement bandwidth is investigated experimentally.
