The damping effect of particle dampers with granular materials has studied both experimentally and analytically. The small particle damping effect and the noise that is emitted by particle dampers are investigated experimentally. It was found that noise level emitted by impact force between granular materials and cavity wall of the primary system, is higher for large particles than for small particles. In addition, an analytical method based on the discrete element method is proposed. In this method, the computational effect is reduced by means of the single particle instead of granular materials. The validity of the numerical method is examined by comparison with experimental results.
