Authors focused on carbon powder carbonized and grinded a rice hull (RHSC powder) for effective utilizations of agricultural waste, and prolongation of fatigue life and noise reduction for plastic gears. In previous studies, mechanical properties of the composite resin material (POM-RHSC) which polyacetal (POM) added with RHSC powder and the operation test of injection molded POM-RHSC gears were conducted. In order to clarify utilities of RHSC powder and characteristics of POM-RHSC as a composite resin, it is necessary to elucidate friction and wear characteristics of POMRHSC when the mating material is a plastic resin. In this study, the friction-sliding test of POM-RHSC with the mating material POM is carried out using a pin-on-disc type-testing machine. The friction coefficient and specific wear amount are determined, and the sliding surface is observed. Then, the influence of the median grain diameter and the amount of filling of RHSC powder on the friction is investigated. As a result, it is confirmed that RHSC powder reduced the friction coefficient due to the reduction of the true contact area, moreover the intervening wear powder and transfer film due to the aggressiveness of RHSC powder. In addition, well wear characteristics of RHSC powder appear when the added 5 wt% or more.
