The self-excited vibration called stick-slip causes some problems in various situations. For example, chatter of machine tools reduce machine stability and machining accuracy. It is said that reducing the driving speed of the machine, increasing the rigidity of the machine, etc. prevent the occurrence of stick-slip. However, its mechanism has not been completely elucidated yet. In this study, we used Discrete Element Method (DEM) that can represent the contact state of the objects in order to analyze a stick-slip. The analysis of stick-slip needs to be considered the deformation and friction characteristics of the object. Therefore, we propose the stick-slip model which is the conventional DEM model with deformation and friction characteristics. Furthermore, the validity of the model is investigated by comparing the experimental results and simulation results. As a result, the simulation results of the proposed model were similar to the experimental results in horizontal displacement, vertical displacement and response of strain.
