An experimental study on drag reduction for a bluff body has been made with rough-smooth discontinuity surface geometry. The bluff body is employed to be a model of vehicles such as heavy-trucks or buses driving on a highway. With expectation to generate longitudinal vortices, the rough-smooth discontinuity film is glued around the upstream round edge of the bluff body model. The rough-smooth discontinuity film successfully reduces drag coefficient by approximately 10% at velocity of 17 m/s. The crossed hot-wire measurement confirms that the film enhances momentum transport in downstream of the body and suppresses flow separation near the upstream edge of the model.
