In abrasive water jet (AWJ) cutting, the performance of AWJs is influenced by the wear in orifice and focusing tubes. This paper covers an approach that monitors the condition of AWJ cutting process and then suggests suitable process parameters, for achieving a desired depth of cut, considering the orifice and focusing tube wear. The process monitoring was based on the suction pressure inside the mixing chamber, monitored with the help of vacuum sensor. The selection of process parameters for achieving consistent performance with AWJs is based on the fuzzy based approach that considers the wear in orifice and focusing tube.
