In the present study, cladding and repairing of mechanical parts was investigated using a laser robot system including a pulsed 300W YAG laser facility, a 6-axis robot, an optical fiber of 5m length, a powder feeding system and a special nozzle for powder supply. SUS304,Colmonoy No5 and FP160 powder alloys were cladded on carbon steel (SM400B) plate with this system. The shape, microstructures and performance of the clad layer were investigated by changing the cladding conditions. A sound clad layer with fine microstructure and very low dilution was obtained. Moreover, a study on laser clad repairing and rapid prototyping were performed by multi-layers cladding using a computer program.
