Cooling pipes in molds are generally machined by drills. Such cooling pipes are inefficient due to their simple shapes. To overcome the limitation of their shape, our research group has developed a new method of machining holes whose cross sections change along their center axes. It is expected that the performance of cooling pipes with changing cross sections is higher than that of conventional ones qualitatively. However, even the basic performance of such cooling pipes is not clarified. To solve the problem, the study aims at the quantitative analysis of the basic performance of cooling pipes with changing cross sections.
