Abstract
In this research, an arc welding technology has been applied to melt the metal, and the fabrication system for three dimensional metallic parts, direct metal lamination using arc discharge, has been developed. In this paper, residual stress in the shell structure fabricated by this direct metal rapid lamination and the deformation after the finishing process are investigated. As a result, it is clarified that heat input, cooling rate and height of the laminated modeling object are the governing parameters of the mechanism of residual stress formation. Dimension accuracy after the finishing process is influenced by the deformation caused by the residual stress release and the stiffness of the laminated modeling object.
