When a building greatly shakes, by an earthquake, escalators may greatly shake as well. Therefore, escalators are set into beam of building with either bottom or upper non-fixed style in order not to restrict the escalator deformation. Escalator is made up of an electric motor, handrails, steps, and is supported by the escalator truss. In addition, L-form board is attached to escalator truss. In non-fixed side, escalator is supported by the L-form board and hanging to the beam of building. However, in Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, escalator body fall accident occurred. Escalator came off from the beam of the building by layer deformation with more than expected. It is necessary to clarify the seismic behavior of the escalator to prevent such an accident. In this study, an analytical model, considering a one mass system, which evaluable the seismic behavior of the escalator has been developed. This analytical model takes into account damping force and the restoring force of escalator truss. Considers the sliding friction occurring between the beams of building and escalator.
