Abstract
We examine between joint research with academia and companies' performance in pharmaceutical industry. Particularly, we focus on "pipeline" as a performance index of companies, here. We empirically analyze by data on joint research between company and academia using database on academia-industry collaboration by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In addition, we add patent application data, financial data and pipeline information by company. Here, we compared the relationship between degree of joint research and phaseS or filed between 2003 and 2009. As a result, we mainly found a relationship between degree of joint research and phaseS in pipeline in 2009. However, we could not find the relationship between the degree of joint research and filed in 2003 and 2009. The degree of joint research would have an impact in the stage of phase 3 but would not in the stage of filed.
