In bone tissue engineering, porous composite materials of biopolymers and bioactive ceramics have been utilized as scaffolds for tissue regeneration with cells. In the present study, different kinds of porous composite scaffolds were developed and used to construct regenerated bone-like tissues with mesenchymal stem cells. Variation of biological properties and compressive mechanical properties were examined to understand the effects of scaffold material and structure. Effects of compressive mechanical stimulus on the proliferation and ECM formation of osteoblastic cells with collagen scaffold were also examined. In this paper, several critical findings obtained from those experimental studies are summarized.
