To realize the use of self-healing ceramic materials, numerous studies have been conducted to clarify the strength recovery mechanism, and to develop a model based on the oxidation kinetics. To facilitate the use of self-healing ceramic materials in machines and equipment, however, a novel numerical simulation model, which can be applied to non-prescribed damage processes, is desired. Needless to say, an important aspect of modeling self-healing ceramics is the ability to describe their oxidation kinetics. A kinetics-based damage-healing constitutive model could provide guidelines for material and mechanical designs. In this study, we therefore focus on constitutive modeling to analyze self-healing ceramic materials by introducing oxidation kinetics-based evolution rules for damage state variables.
