An integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is a high thermal efficiency power generation system that uses a gasifier to convert coal to synthesis gas (syngas), a gas turbine burning the syngas, and a steam turbine generating additional electricity from exhaust heat. Nakoso IGCC is the only commercial IGCC power plant in Japan, which adopts an air-blown type gasifier. This report overviews current status of the Nakoso IGCC. During the operation, it was found that combustor heat load can be decreased by adjusting gasifier’s parameters maintaining stable operating.
