We attempt to improve the transmission efficiency of rack & pinion that is used in automotive steering system. Therefore, transmission efficiency of rack & pinion testing machine was manufactured, and transmission efficiency of rack & pinion was measured by the former research. As a result, slide speed is related to the transmission efficiency of rack & pinion. However, it was found that there are mechanical losses in the testing machine. In order to measure transmission efficiency accurately, we have to evaluate their losses. Although a few losses was already measured until now, the loss occurred by linear guide that is one of the parts of testing machine have been not measured yet. So we measured its loss by applying the load to linear guide. As a result, it found that 2.67% losses occurred by linear guide. We could found new losses in our testing machine. That allows us to evaluate transmission efficiency of rack & pinion more accurately.
