Tomographic PIV using a monocular camera with a 4-face prism filter is tested in the case of a 3D stirring flow in a small rectangular cavity. The 4-face prism filter used in the current experiment is a commercial product, with which the focal length of the main objective lens and the distance between the filter and the cavity are optimized for the best separation of quadrascopic images without heavy loss of image resolution. The performance of the method is compared with a standard tomographic PIV system using four individual cameras in terms of 3D velocity plots and contours. Some consideration is made as to the effects of restricted optical arrangement and resolution of the recorded images.
