In this study, plastic ankle foot orthosis (PAFO) is targeted as a typical ankle foot orthosis. The final goal of the research is to generate on the computer the first three-dimensional model of the brace from the body shape molded by the 3D scanner, and to process the model created by using 3D CAD such as trimming and corrugation as a brace, and to make it as the temporary complete PAFO model with 3D printer. This research aimed at development of the element technology for the same design system construction, and advanced researches for the following two points. The first purpose is to show that it is possible to make an orthosis model on 3D CAD using data of the shape of lower extremity acquired by 3D scanner. Then, the second purpose is to verify the usefulness of finite element analysis (FEM) of the deformation state of the appliance when a load is applied to the 3D model of the appliance. For the first purpose, it was found that 3D CAD can produce the first model of the brace from the shape of the lower limb. In addition, for the second purpose, it was confirmed that the measured values and the simulation values were almost identical.
