Measurement of three-dimensional distributions of micro-particles is expected to be used for investigations of particle dispersion in media and fluid characteristics in microfluidic channels. This study proposes a near-infrared method to measure micro-particle distributions in water based on the absorption spectroscopic characteristics of water; i.e., the wavelength dependence of the detected light intensity reflected from the micro-particles, and the light scattering theory for micro-particles; i.e., the irradiation angle dependence. To evaluate the validity of the method, a plurality of reflection images were obtained and analyzed for various micro-particles by using several different irradiation wavelengths.
