Exhaust air energy is one of the unused energy resource for electrical generation. In order to utilize the energy effectively, horizontal axis wind turbine is focused on this research. The objective of this study is to reveal the most appropriate distance from the duct outlet to the wind turbine and proof the effectiveness of horizontal axis wind turbine to utilize duct exhaust wind energy. In this experiment, a horizontal axis small wind turbine is installed at the exhaust duct of a wind tunnel laboratory. The internal pressure, wind speed, and the output of the wind turbine are measured at each tested distance. According to the experimental results, the energy recovery efficiency was maximum at a distance of 2 m and a rotational speed of 1400 rpm, and the energy recovery rate was 21.5% which is higher than the previous study using same diameter of a vertical axis wind turbine.
