Air jet flow from small diameter nozzle is used for eliminating a chip from machine tool and for separating overlapping cups and holding and releasing the cups at cup carrying system. The air jets from the nozzles of the cup carrying system generate air flow noise and it is important to reduce the air flow noise for working environment. Purpose of this research is to clarify the nozzle shape that can reduce the jet noise without deterioriateing jet performance. In the experiment, the compressed air from the air compressor was supplied to test nozzles with the small diameter of 2.0mm-16.0mm. In this study, straight nozzle, rapidly expanded nozzle, and multi-hole nozzle had used as the test nozzle shapes. From the result it was found that the rapidly expanded part of the nozzle increases the noise,however,the noise could be reduced by using the multi-hole nozzle.
