At Hida tunnel on the Tokai Hokuriku Expressway in winter, a phenomenon was observed in which the visual environment inside the tunnel deteriorated.

There are two possible causes. One is due to the inflow of fog into the tunnel outside the tunnel, and the other is that cold air flows into the tunnel from the outside and a sudden temperature change causes fog to be generated.

Therefore, in addition to the normal tunnel ventilation control, we added a control method to suppress the deterioration of the visual environment due to fog. It is to detect fog outside the tunnel and prevent it from flowing into the tunnel, and to control the wind speed of the tunnel entrance by predicting the occurrence of fog from the difference in temperature and humidity inside and outside the tunnel.

This article describes the construction of control algorithms and the status of on-site tuning.
