During the cylindrical plunge grinding process, the dimensional error of the ground workpiece is generated by the thermal deformation. In this study, a new machining system that can compensate the effect of the thermal deformation was developed. In this system, the thermal deformation of the workpiece was calculated by a laptop computer during the grinding process. The calculated thermal deformation was smaller compared to the measured result because the grinding energy was estimated imprecisely due to the low performance of the laptop computer. The grinding energy was underestimated because the sampling period of the power consumption of the wheel motor was expanded in the case of using the laptop computer. Therefore, the estimation method of the grinding energy was improved to eliminate the effect of the change in sampling period. It was conformed that the improved method could estimate the thermal deformation of the workpiece with high accuracy by grinding experiments.
