In this study, we exploited the excellent oil absorption performance of polypropylene nanofiber unwoven fabric. In particular, we focused on its application in the field of polishing. We tried to polish the surface of hardened steel (JIS: SKD11) by using a three-axis machining center, polypropylene nanofiber, and a ball-nose polishing tool developed to buff the free-form surface. In this report, we investigated the influence of different grain size and pressing force on polishing efficiency. And the influence of different angles between the tool and the machined surface was studied. This influence is expressed in terms of the surface roughness of the workpiece and the removal per unit time. We also propose a theoretical model to predict the removal rate in the buffing process, thereby clarifying the relationship between the tilt angle of the workpiece and the amount of grinding removal. In addition, we observed the surface after different angles processing.
