In this study, chip breaking is aimed in the drilling process by utilization of axial vibration and modification of tool edge shape. The drill is vibrated in the axial direction, where the vibration and tooth periods set adequately so that the chips are broken. The tool edge shape is modified to split the chips by forming a step on the cutting edge in the direction of the flute. The experimental results show that the chips, which are ejected from the slight step drill with the appropriate vibration, are broken and split successfully in the longitudinal and lateral directions.
