Microhardness provides a means of quantifying the mechanical effects of small scale spatial variation in the composition of cortical bone. Studies have shown the correlation between microhardness and mineral content. Nevertheless, only limited information is presently available on relationship between microhardness and mechanical strength of cortical bone. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between microhardness and tensile properties of bovine cortical bone using Vickers microhardness and tensile tests.
