In pure electric and hybrid electric vehicles, high performance batteries such as lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries become to be loaded. In order to draw the sufficient performance from the batteries and to utilize them reliably and safely, information of thermal characteristics of the batteries are necessary and appropriate thermal design and management of the batteries are required. In this report, we described examples of thermal simulation for grasping thermal characteristics of Li-ion batteries form the view point of thermal design and management of the batteries.
