We have successfully fabricated a thin-film flux-gate magnetic sensor (TFG sensor) on a 2.6mm square chip, and a compact hybrid-integrated-circuit driver for this TFG sensor. Fully utilizing their noteworthy features, such as compact design and high sensitivity, we have investigated the applications of the newly developed TFG sensors to current measurement, and nondestructive testing. Out study has shown that the new TFG sensors ensure 0.3mA resolution in direct current measurement in the range of ±2A. As for nondestructive testing, we found that the new sensor provided quality images of magnetic patterns on SUS304 and other steel materials attributable to martensitic transformation during tensile tests.
