This paper describes a method of predicting the oil leak of hydrodynamic bearing (HDB) in spindle motor using a lubrication analysis. The results of lubrication analysis were compared with the measurements of oil leakage using 18 types of bearing. As a result, it was found out that there is the correlation in the oil leakage and the pressure distribution of radial bearing. Therefore it is possible to predict the oil leak of HDB spindle motor using the pressure distribution of radial bearing that calculated by lubrication analysis.
