This paper describes a numerical analysis approach of lubricating oil temperature in rotating HDB (HydroDynamic Bearing) spindle motor. This approach composed of two steps. In the first step, thermo-fluid analysis of the lubricating oil is performed to calculate the heat generation rate of lubricating oil. In the second step, heat conduction analysis of spindle motor is performed considering heat generation rates of the lubricating oil and the motor. Then temperature of oil in the rotating spindle motor is calculated. The calculated lubricating oil temperature agrees well with the measured value using an infrared CCD thermograph.
