To investigate the residual stress distribution generated by foreign object damage (FOD), the residual stress inside and outside of two indentations were measured by the (sin)^2⩛ method using the synchrotron radiation facility at Spring-8. Each indentation was introduced onto the cross section of a cylindrical Ti-6Al-4V alloy. One is the dynamic indentation which was introduced by shooting a steel ball with a diameter φ=4.7mm at a velocity ν=180m/s. The other is the static indentation which was introduced by pushing the steel ball by static loading P=2.355tonf. The residual stress distributions in the two cases were similar. The residual stresses at the center of the indentation were approximately equal; σ=-470∿-460MPa.
