In this paper, we discuss the dynamic characteristics of ultrasonic motors (USMs). Though USM is said that its response is high, its dynamic characteristics are not clear now. First, we measured the transient response of bar-type USM by Laser-Doppler-Velocimeter. Changing the frequency of the applied voltage, we checked the relationship between frequency and overshoot, delay time of the rotational speed of rotor. Furthermore, we developed the mathematical model of bar-type ultrasonic motors in mechanical part. Developed model can be used for consideration of the interaction between rotor and stator, stick-slip distribution at the contact area. Using developed model, we calculated the history of driving force, distribution of the contact condition.
