A nanoindentation test is conducted on a folded chain crystal of polyethylene by means of the molecular dynamics simulation. The results are summarized as follows; (a) The indentation with the loading/unloading rate of 2000 m/s remains the residual depression while that of 200m/s recovers the hollow, (b) No elastic component is found in the deformation of crystal under the/both rate of 200 m/s and 2000 m/s. (c) The displacement-force curve under the rate of 200 m/s represents only the repulsive/attractive force between the C-atoms of the indenter and CH_2 groups of molecular chains contacting directly each other, (d) The indenting force increases remarkably under the rate of 2000 m/s because of the delayed response of whole crystal under trie indenter.
