Abstract

Hokkaido satellite is the small satellite which is being developed in Hokkaido. In this paper, the attitude determination system based on the Kalman Filter is designed for the Hokkaido satellite. The satellite has an earth sensor and IRU. The earth sensor outputs roll and pitch angles. Focusing on coupling between roll and yaw axes in kinematic equation of earth observation satellites, the attitude determination system is designed to estimate roll, pitch and yaw angles using roll and yaw angular measurements and IRU. We estimate accuracy of sensors to satisfy Hokkaido satellite's requirement. As a result, it is confirmed that designed attitude determination system satisfies Hokkaido satellite's requirement, ±1[deg], by using angular velocity sensors of private manufacture.
