Abstract
This paper presents the sterilization of bacteria (Escherichia Coli & Bacillus Subtilis) using high-speed water jet. The water with bacteria was pressurized up to 150MPa and flushed out through two very small orifices. The sterilization rate was increased according to the jet velocity. The cavitation was generated at two orifices. The sterilization rates of two kinds of bacteria were compared under the same experimental condition. There was a significant difference between the two bacteria. The sterilization rate of Bacillus subtilis is less than that of the Escherichia coli under the same experimental condition. It might be because Bacillus subtilis has thicker outer membrane of peptidoglycan layer and stronger than Escherichia coli to mechanical attack caused by the collapse of cavitation bubbles.
