Abstract

The technology which recycles used clothing into the cotton began in Meiji era with Japan. Along Gunkai River forming the border between Okazaki City and Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, There were a lot of braking factories and Garabo spinning factories the power of which was a waterwheel. Among these, neighboring Nakanetoyozo factory and Mitoyama spinning and weaving factory shared a waterway, the former equipped with a Japanese-style waterwheel 6.2 meters in diameter and the latter equipped with two water turbines. We report on the power transmission system and the water utilization system of these braking factories.
