Abstract
A verification of the introductory subject "A guide to Engineering", which was designed for the freshmen of the mechanical engineering department in Kyushu University and was introduced in 2000 school year, is performed by the experiences of the authors and the results of questionnaires to both the students and the professors. This subject has the high educational effect, and on the other hand, requires too much work of the professors. The difficulty of choice of the theme for the freshmen makes some of the professor choose the graduation-research-like-themes, which give the professor much more work which cannot be completed by his own efforts. The solutions of some problems including the above problem are proposed in order to make this subject continue to grow.
