1309 Structural Analysis of MPEG2 Patent pool

In this paper the structure of the essential patents in US and Japan for MPEG2, pooled in the MPED-LA patent pool, was analyzed using the NRI Technology Heat Map. As a result we could visualize the transition of technological trends on the MPEG2 essential patents and the technological fields each patent holder focused on. We could also speculate the relationship between the timing for a company to join a patent pool and that of patent application of essential technologies.
