Abstract
The magnesium alloys containing Gd, Y and Zn demonstrate high tensile strength due to age hardening and long-period-structure phases. In this paper, coarse powder of Mg-2.0Gd-1.2Y-0.75Zn-0.21Zr (at%) alloy, MgGdYZnZr, have been applied into Roll-Compaction Process, RCP, which induces severe plastic deformation, and the microstructures and mechanical properties of their extruded alloys are reported. The RCPed-MgGdYZnZr rods demonstrate excellent tensile strength and moderate elongation of 426MPa and 11%, respectively.
