It is well known that non-circular vortex rings in jets are effective to enhance diffusion and mixing. The vortex rings deform three dimensionally owing to the induce velocity which is caused by non-uniform curvature effect of the vortex ring. In the present study, rectangular jet exits with aspect ratio of 2 and 4 were applied to generate synthetic jets, and the rectangular synthetic jets were visualized experimentally to discuss the vortex motions with focusing on vortex dynamics. From the results, the deformation, axis switching and vortex bifurcation of the vortex rings in the rectangular synthetic jets were visualized and related to the induced velocity of the vortex ring.
